Yesterday’s and today’s discriminations: an exhibition created by students is coming soon

Thanks to the European project "ValUEs", of which the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo is a partner, a temporary exhibition on the theme of yesterday’s and today’s discriminations created by the students of a local high school is on its way. An exceptional partner for the realisation of the exhibition is the MUFOCO Museum of Contemporary Photography, which will guide the students in the realisation of the exhibition. Within the exhibition there will be images, texts and video interviews on the topic of discrimination, treated both from a historical and contemporary point of view.

The European project ’Values’ boasts a complex and varied partnership: in addition to the municipal administration there are the Sapienza Innovation Consortium of Rome (Lead Partner), the Sturzo Institute of Rome, the Lorand Eotvos University of Budapest (Hungary), the University of Bucharest (Romania) and the University of Kaunas (Lithuania).
The project is funded by the European CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) programme, which aims to promote the development of a common culture of memory and mutual understanding between citizens of different countries.

The aim of the project is to raise awareness among the younger generation on the topic of discrimination, to conduct an investigation on the topic of racial discrimination in the Europe of totalitarianism and to stimulate reflection on discrimination today.
To do this, the final product of the project will be the creation of a travelling exhibition that will open at the end of March at the Il Pertini cultural centre and, after two weeks, will visit all the cities in the partnership.

A class from a local high school was involved in the realisation of the exhibition thanks to a dedicated PCTO. With the artistic direction of Mufoco and the support of the municipality, the pupils will be the creators of the exhibition. Over the next few weeks, the students will run a three-day workshop in which they will reflect on the theme, carry out research, group activities, workshops and start to collect the materials needed for the exhibition (i.e. images, texts and record video interviews).
In the video interviews, the students will meet and interview various figures who have suffered or are suffering discrimination (e.g. children of deportees, victims of racial, gender, social discrimination, etc.).

All materials of the travelling exhibition will be made available on the official project website.
