Three months after her departure, Celeste tells us how her experience in France is going:
I have been in France for three months and I am in Caen, in Normandy. The city is very beautiful and offers several attractions, including a castle, a port and several museums. Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed. I shared the apartment for two and a half months with another Spanish volunteer. She helped me a lot to get settled and we shared many experiences.
My volunteer work is in Amfreville, a small village in the countryside near Caen. I offer my help in the nursery and primary school, following children at various times of the day. In particular, I help teachers in the primary school painting workshops or physical education lessons, as well as support within the classes themselves. I also had the opportunity to propose and prepare activities for children. I made a presentation on Christmas traditions in Italy and managed to teach the first grade some words of Italian. The teachers are always available and kind, happy for my creativity.
The town of Amfreville is also twinned with an English and a German town, and I also offer my help to the twinning committee. We organized a polyglot evening inside the associative cafe of Amfreville, I held the table of the Italian.
In mid-November I went to Laval for my first seminar and there I met other volunteers from all over Europe. It was very interesting to meet them and discover new traditions and cultures. I have connected with many people that I continued to attend.
I also had the opportunity to visit Le Mont-Saint-Michelle and Granville, a small town on the coast. Soon I would like to go visit Paris, easily reachable from Caen in an hour and a half by train.
Working with children gives me so much joy and I have discovered other parts of myself.
