Project name and description: The ValUEs (Valuing Lives & Understanding European (hi)Stories) project aims to conduct an investigation into the issue of racial discrimination in the Europe of totalitarianism and to stimulate reflection on discrimination today.

Duration, programme, funding (Cerv or Erasmus+) and partnership: This is a 15-month project, from March 2022 to June 2023, funded by the European CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) programme. The project leader is the Sapienza Innovazione Consortium of Rome in collaboration with the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo, the Sturzo Institute of Rome, the Lorand Eotvos University of Budapest (Hungary), the University of Bucharest (Romania) and the University of Kaunas (Lithuania).

Specific objectives of the project:
- To investigate the era of racial and anti-Semitic persecution by reconstructing and narrating biographical events.
- To sensitise the younger generations on the transition from the instrumentalisation of prejudice to discrimination and the promulgation of racial laws.
- Remembering the consequences of discrimination, and reaffirming the values of inclusion and equality on which the European Union is founded.

Projected activities:
- n.3 workshop days with high school students, for the production of materials to be displayed in a travelling exhibition on the project.
- n. 7 video interviews with witnesses and family members of victims of discrimination. The video interviews will also be carried out with students and some of them will be displayed in the exhibition; all the interviews will then be uploaded on the project website.
- A travelling exhibition, the materials of which (video interviews and posters with pictures and descriptive captions) will be produced by the project partners and the high school students; the exhibition will be inaugurated in Cinisello Balsamo and will then be displayed in all the project partners’ venues.
- Final event in Rome by La Sapienza University, which will include: a conference attended by all partners, with publication of the proceedings; possibly the final closing of the travelling exhibition.

Final products:
- N. 7 video interviews with witnesses and/or family members of victims of discrimination.
- The materials produced by the young people during the workshop.
- A travelling exhibition gathering the materials and interviews produced by the young people and the project partners.

Values European project: final conference at La Sapienza University of Rome

On Friday, September 29, 2023, the final conference of the Values (Valorizing Lives & Understanding European (hi)Stories) project was held at La Sapienza University of Rome, a project that aimed to conduct an investigation into the issue of racial discrimination in the Europe of totalitarianism and to stimulate reflection on discrimination today.

ValUEs exhibition opens at Pertini: A Journey around discrimination and EU values

The first stage of the traveling exhibition of the European project ValUEs: a Journey around Discrimination and EU Values will open on March 25, 2023 in Cinisello Balsamo. The opening will be at 11 a.m. at the ground floor of the Pertini Cultural Center, which will host it until April 12.
