Agorà

Name and description of the project: Agora is a project dealing with young people’s perceptions of Europe, focusing in particular on the wave of Euroscepticism in the EU member states. Focusing on the perspectives of young Europeans, the project aims to identify the root causes of Eurosceptic tendencies among young people and proposes measures to shorten the distance between young European citizens and the idea of Europe.
Duration, programme, funding (Cerv or Erasmus+) and partnership: Agora ran for two years, ended in September 2022, and was funded by Erasmus+ within the Europe for Citizens programme. The project leader was the Municipality of Athienou (Cyprus), in cooperation with the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo, the Municipality of Santa Maria de Feira (Portugal) and the Municipality of Smolyan (Bulgaria).
Specific objectives:
- To create a network between the partner cities.
- To improve young people’s engagement in European initiatives within their local communities.
- To improve young people’s engagement in European initiatives within their local communities.
- To create policies for future action against Euroscepticism.
Project Activities:
- Opening ceremony, with a conference on the project objectives, activities and expected results and a kick-off meeting with the project partners.
- Structured dialogue activities on Euroscepticism among young people.
- Two-day workshop with focus on youth engagement in European initiatives, active civic participation and the causes of young people’s estrangement from Europe.
- Creation of policy papers on proposals for youth engagement and active participation and presentation of the activity in Brussels.
- Closing ceremony with presentation of the policy papers and videos in Cyprus.
Final products: Policy paper with guidance to the EU on supporting participation, active citizenship and cultural exchange.

From September 2021 to September 2022, the European project 'Agora | Democratic Values & Cultures in Europe' took place. This project involved five partners from the European Union: the Municipality of Athienou from Cyprus, the Municipality of Santa Maria de Feira from Portugal, the Municipality of Smolyan from Bulgaria, the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo from Italy and the Greek association I.R.T.E.A.
Agorà project: closing ceremony in Cyprus
From Thursday, September 8, to Saturday, September 10, 2022, the Closing Ceremony of the European project "Agora | Democratic Values & Cultures in Europe" was held in Athienou (Cyprus), a project that involved the Municipality of Cinisello Balsamo (Italy), the Municipality of Athienou (Cyprus), the Municipality of Santa Maria de Feira (Portugal), the Municipality of Smolyan (Bulgaria) and the IRTEA Association (Greece).

On May 5th and 6th the last days of activities with the young participants of the Agora project were held in Athens.
The Agorà project starts in style!
On the 9th and 10th of September was held in Cyprus the kick-off meeting of Agorà, a project funded by the European Union aimed at raising awareness among young people on issues such as active European citizenship, the sharing of values and cultures and Euroscepticism.
