On the 15th of May, 2025, as part of the project “Teens in the Lead” and on the occasion of the Europe Day, an event took place in Cinisello Balsamo. It involved 35 young volunteers and was organized in collaboration with Eurodesk and Europe Direct Lombardia.
After a short Eurodesk service presentation on european opportunities for young people the participants, guided by Europe Direct Lombardia, had the opportunity to reflect on youth disinformation, one of the most urgent and widespread problem in today’s media landscape.
To start, Europe Direct Lombardia shown us their centre’s operation and told us abouth the initiatives they’re taking to bring EU issues closer to citizens.
Through stimulating debates and practical activities, young people explored how in communication – and in particularly in journalism – elements of disinformation can creep in, making it difficult to distinguish between real news and fake news.
We reflected on how easy it is to manipulate a message and on how news, if not properly verified, can be misleading or false.
The day was really stimulating, it enabled young people to put themselves in the shoes of who creates informational content and to develop critical thinking towards what we read and hear everyday.
