On November 7th, 2024, we were in Milan at the Centro Donna to observe how clothes can be recycled and reused for a second life. On November 13, we visited the Woodhouse Hotel to observe how the simple recycling of waste wood pieces can be used to design and complete a real hotel.
On November 7th, 2024, a group of young people visited the social tailoring workshop at the Centro Milano Donna in Municipality 9, where the tailor Samanthakhan Thisler explained the inseparable connection between social and environmental sustainability in textile work: one cannot exist without the other. As an example, Thisler shared her experience with the "Redamare" collection — an ancient Italian word meaning "to love with equal love" — consisting of prêt-à-porter pieces and handcrafted wedding dresses made from recycled shirts. This collection not only gives new life to high-quality fabrics but also promotes the employment of women in vulnerable situations.
On November 13th we were hosted by the hotel "Woodhouse" which welcomed us to share with us their eco-sustainable reality. This is a hotel that reuses coils and pallets of the company Boffi, as well as owner of the property, to furnish the spaces of the building, but not only, also inside the rooms are used waste wood materials such as decorations and furnishings.
The choice to use these waste elements, coming from adjacent production, is dictated by the desire to tell the history of the building and its evolution, but it turns the attention to the impact of the activity on the environment.
The hotel managers welcomed us inside the building where they told us its history, its evolution, the services they offer, showing us some rooms and common areas available to guests. In addition to the overnight stay, the hotel also offers various services related to cycle tourism: they give the possibility of renting bicycles, they offer different rates and packages dedicated to cycling holidays, providing a complete support, thanks to their bike shop equipped for quick repairs, and at the Reception you can find information on the best local excursions.
